Dr. Fuad A. Ghaleb is a Senior Lecturer in Cyber Security at Birmingham City University, where he also serves as the lead tutor for the second year of the Cyber Security course. He brings over 14 years of teaching and research experience, along with 8 years of industry experience in cyber security consultancy, penetration testing, software development, and IT solutions management. He holds a Ph.D. (2018) and an MSc (2014) in Computer Science, specializing in cyber security, from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and a BSc (2003) in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Computer and Control Engineering, from Sana’a University.
Dr. Fuad has taught at several higher education institutions, including the Faculty of Computing at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), where he served as a Senior Lecturer and Researcher (2020–2023), a Postdoctoral Fellow in Cyber Threat Intelligence Lab (2018–2019), and Head of the High Impact Publication Committee (2021–2023). He also worked at Sana’a Community College (SCC) as a Lecturer (2004–2012) and Head of the Computer Engineering Department (2008–2012). His teaching expertise includes ethical hacking, malware analysis, digital forensics, network security, and secure programming, among many other topics in the cybersecurity and computer science fields.
His research expertise lies in the field of cyber security, with a focus on applying artificial intelligence to develop advanced solutions such as intrusion and malware detection, network security, cyber threat intelligence, vehicular network security, Internet of Things (IoT) security, anomaly and misbehaviour detection, and malware analysis. He has an outstanding publication record in prestigious, high-impact journals including Vehicular Communications (Elsevier), Pervasive and Mobile Computing (Elsevier), Scientific Reports (Nature), Future Generation Computer Systems (Elsevier), PeerJ Computer Science, and Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems. He has also presented at several international conferences. Additionally, he actively supervises postgraduate research students, serves as a reviewer for numerous international journals, and collaborates on various international research projects.
Dr. Fuad has received multiple prestigious awards, including being named among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in the ICT category by Elsevier BV and Stanford University in both 2023 and 2024. He also received the Excellence Teaching Award from UTM in 2021, the Research Excellence Award in 2021, 2022, and 2023, Excellence Service Award (2021), as well as Best Paper Award at several international conferences. Additionally, he has led and contributed to numerous research projects focused on AI-driven cybersecurity solutions, blockchain technology in cybersecurity, malware detection, and next-generation firewalls.
