Where to get vegan food in Birmingham

The world has gone a bit vegan crazy over the last few years. The number of vegans in the UK has risen by 350 per cent in the past decade. And did you know 42 per cent of those are aged between 15 and 34?

There are many reasons why people decide to try a vegan diet, including a love of animals, the environment or making improvements to their health and nutrition. But whether you’re an experienced vegan or are trying it out for the first time, Birmingham is full of amazing restaurants that have heaps of yummy vegan dishes.

Here’s our guide to eight vegan food spots in Birmingham

1) The Warehouse Café

This hip eco-veggie restaurant in Digbeth is a local favourite and its fresh seasonal ingredients make it easy to see why it’s so popular. The dessert menu is also vegan, so treat yourself!

2) Cherry Reds cafe bar

Get yourself an all-day vegan breakfast at Cherry Reds. For just over £6 you can tuck into Linda McCartney sausage, deep fried tofu, beans, mushrooms, two buttered granary toast, vegan spread, cherry tomatoes and hash browns!

3) Mowgli Street Food at Grand Central

This Indian street food eatery has its own separate vegan menu where you will find nine different vegan dishes, so you can pick and choose as you like.

An up-market option for a treat meal for vegetarians and vegans, 1847 is found in the Great Western Arcade and covers everything from a la carte to tasting menus. Perfect for a special occasion, plant-based style!

5) Jamie's Italian

If you fancy some pasta or pizza in a great setting, look no further than Jamie's Italian. They have a whole menu of veggie and vegan food. Make sure you get yourself a Gold Card to access free tasters every time you visit and monthly treats like a free glass of fizz - winning!

6) Wagamama

Japanese chain Wagamama has launched its first dedicated vegan menu. All the new dishes have been inspired by different areas of Asia, so there’s a wide variety of delicious foods for you to choose from! You can find three Wagamama’s in Birmingham City Centre – at the Bullring, on New Street and Brindley Place.

7) Natural Bar and Kitchen

Birmingham's first fully vegan restaurant, Natural Bar and Kitchen offers a la carte dining but also an innovative approach involving a buffet and weigh and pay system - just pay for what you put on your plate! The desserts are all amazing and completely vegan, too.

8) Pizza Express

Students rejoice! A surprising entry on our list, we know, but vegans rave about the vegan cheese Pizza Express serves up on its pizzas - you just need to ask!
