Thinking about heading back or staying on at university? If you’ve been thinking about your next steps for a while you might be looking at Open Days, some of our postgraduate open days are virtual and we've got loads of reasons why that might work well for you.

So how does that work I hear you ask? Looking round without actually looking round? Here’s what you can expect from a Birmingham City University postgraduate Virtual Open Day, and why it’s worth your while to attend one.

Preparing for uni academically primary

1. Comfort and safety

The main draw for attending a virtual open day is comfort – you can be curled up on your sofa in your PJs whilst scoping out your future uni, but also you don’t need to worry about social distancing, or just generally leaving the safety of your own home. You’ll have the chance to take part in live talks with lecturers and students on your course, as well as information on fees and funding and subject-specific webinars.

2. Replays

After you've attended a BCU postgraduate Virtual Open Day, you’ll then have access to replay the course talks and information webinars you took part in so you can re-watch them to your heart’s content. This makes it easier when you’re making your decision in a few months’ time and will have something to refer back to. Great news if your Amazon parcel arrived halfway through and you missed an important point!

3. Explore as many courses as you like

Although when you sign up you express your interest in a certain subject area, on the day you can explore as many courses and subjects across our schools and faculties as you like. This is ideal if you’ve still not decided on exactly which course you’d like to study.

4. Meet our tutors

Each subject area is accompanied by a specific introduction from a relevant academic, giving you an overview of what it’s like to study one of their courses, and what sets them apart. It’s a great way to meet our academics in a relaxed setting and find out more about your chosen course. You'll also be able to sign up to one to one sessions with academics to get your questions answered.

5. Meet our students

You’ll also get the chance to see what our students think about studying at BCU, as well as putting your questions to them on the day to get answered via social media. We also have students involved in our live webinars, meaning you get insight not only from staff but also from current students who will have relatable insight and answers to your questions.

6. Enjoy live webinars

There’s a whole host of live webinars going on throughout the day, covering everything from finance to accommodation and student support. This is your chance to get your question answered live (without having to put your hand up and have everyone in the room stare at you…).

7. The day works around your timings

You can drop in at the time that suits you to work around anything else you might have on - whether that's childcare, your job, and so on.

8. Explore what’s on offer

From the benefits of postgraduate study to an introduction to student life, our Virtual Open Day covers everything you need to know – not just about your course.

9. Go on a tour

You can go on a detailed video tour of our accommodation buildings to find the right one for you, and you can also take a peek around each of our main buildings across our campuses. This will help you get a feel for where you could be studying (and where to get the nearest frappe!).

10. Discover Birmingham and student life

Last but not least, our Virtual Open Days will give you an insight into what Birmingham has to offer and what student life is like in the UK’s second city, with live student Q&As, lots of articles and student vlogs. Boasting indie restaurants and cafes, loads of shopping options and endless socialising choices, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
