My student support experience

Reaching out to the student support services at BCU can have a huge impact on your university experience. Our students had an open and honest discussion about the kinds of support they receive during their studies, and how this has benefitted them.

Charlotte, Financial Support

Charlotte received a scholarship in her first year of study due to her performance at A-Level. This enabled her to buy materials and resources for her course that she wouldn't have been able to access otherwise.

BCU also has a Finance and Money Matters team which can assist students with any questions or problems they may have while at university. From fees, to budgeting, there is plenty of support available to help you manage your finances.

Joshua, Dyslexia Support

Joshua was able to receive a diagnosis through our Disability Support Team after struggling academically at university. The support he has received due to this diagnosis has enabled him to succeed in his studies and increased his confidence.

All students can also access support with their academic study through the Centre for Academic Success. The Centre provides support with everything from referencing to presentation skills, to help you progress in your course.

Lily, Mental Health Support

After struggling in her first term at university, Lily reached out to our Mental Health and Wellbeing team and her personal tutor for support. After lots of discussion, she came to the decision to pause her studies and return the following year. The team at BCU supported her to make this decision and checked in on her during her break to see how she was feeling. Since returning to BCU, she has thrived on her course and has made the most of her university experience.

Our Mental Health and Wellbeing team offer free and confidential appointments 51 weeks of the year, in person or online.

Pravjoth, Disability Support

Starting university with a disability could have been daunting, but Pravjoth has used the support services at BCU to ensure she made the most of her university experience. Using a support plan provided by the university and Disabled Students' Allowance funding, she was able to succeed in her studies. Pravjoth has gone on to complete a placement, start a business and become president of multiple societies during her time at university.

Our Disability Support Team can arrange for you to receive extra support such as extra time for assignments, written material in different formats and handouts in advance of lectures, to ensure you can achieve your goals.
