Applicants appealing 2020 awarded grades
At BCU we have accepted students based on whatever is higher out of their 2020 awarded grades or teacher-predicted grades. Students do not need to defer entry to BCU if we have accepted them based on either set of grades, even if they plan to appeal.
Students who had applied to BCU in the main UCAS cycle
As this year’s grades have been assigned to students due to the cancellation of exams, we understand that students may want to appeal their results. For students who have received confirmation of a place on a BCU course who subsequently appeal their awarded grades, we will update our records with any new grades as a result of the appeal. These students do not have to wait for the appeal outcome to accept their place or enrol at BCU.
For any student who has been offered an alternative course to their original choice because they did not meet the entry requirements with either set of grades, we will place them on their original choice at the earliest opportunity of an appeal results in grades which meet the requirements of that course.*
Support to prepare for October exams
For students who want to sit the autumn exams and are holding a confirmed place at BCU on either their preferred course or an alternative offer, they do not need to defer their place to study with us.
If students opt to take the exams scheduled for October we can support them to prepare for sitting these exams. Our School of Education & Social Work has around 400 graduates studying for secondary school and college teaching qualifications across the vast majority of subject disciplines; they can provide 1:1 and/or small group coaching to support students in their preparation for the exams.
For students who have received a change course offer, we will be able to move them onto their preferred course if grades achieved in the autumn exams match that course’s current entry requirements. We will also be able to move them between courses if we receive the new grades after the start of term and will commit to placing the student on their original course at the earliest opportunity*. Students should accept their change course offer on UCAS Track for this to happen.
Students applying through Clearing who are appealing 2020 awarded grades
Students who are applying for a place at BCU via Clearing and are offered a place on a foundation or other alternative course, should note that we may be able to move them onto their preferred course if grades which are changed following an appeal match our current entry requirements for that course.
If we receive new grades before 30 October, students will be able to start on their preferred course. If we receive them after the start of the course, we will commit to placing them on their preferred course at the earliest opportunity*
*The earliest opportunity will be mid-term for all courses but may have to be next intake for externally accredited courses that do not allow for late starts. We commit to providing catch-up sessions for all students with late starts or transfers caused by exam publication dates.
