PhD Researcher and Assistant Lecturer in Criminology

Cristiana Cardoso was appointed as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in 2016 and is now studying towards her PhD. Her doctoral research examines the experiences of women who have perpetrated sexual abuse in an effort to understand what protective factors might have been absent or disengaged in their lives before and during their offending, as well as exploring how interventions can help to address these issues to prevent the abuse of children.

Alongside her studies, she is an Assistant Lecturer at Birmingham City University and teaches on a number of undergraduate Criminology modules. Additionally, she also performs a number of tasks as executive PA for Emma Kelly (Programme Director of for Criminology, Security Studies, Policing and Investigation) and has been a volunteer with The New Bridge Foundation since 2015.
