Prior to taking up appointment with the BCU, Ron served for over thirty years with the Metropolitan Police Service and West Midlands Police. These included front-line CID roles, as well as senior command roles in local policing, public order policing, firearms policing and as a senior investigating officer for major and complex crime- including covert policing.

Ron is committed to the teaching and development of future policing and criminal justice professionals and he draws on the authenticity and credibility of his extensive policing experience in bringing the subject matter to life. His values chime with BCU’s reputation as a ‘civic university’ and his decision to become an academic was based on making a positive difference to communities and to further develop effective policing practice.
