Alasdair McCarrick

Alasdair has been a qualified Youth and Community Worker since 2005 when he acquired his DipHE with JNC from the University of Birmingham. Since then, he has worked across the statutory and voluntary youth work sectors delivering diverse projects for young people with a specialism in young people’s mental health.

Alasdair has also worked with the Birmingham Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and more recently was involved with Birmingham Children’s Trust as a systemic relational practitioner working with families in crisis.

He taught Youth Studies and Youth Justice at NTU and has been an Associate Lecturer with the Open University since 2017.

Alasdair joined BCU in August 2022 as a Lecturer on the BA Youth Work and Communities programme.

Interests include critical pedagogy, dialogue, young people and democracy and social justice.
