Nathan joined the Department of Sociology and Criminology in 2018, where he teaches on a number of undergraduate sociology courses.

Nathan’s research focuses on the following areas:

  1. Informal social control, governmentality, and the cartographies of power in different spatial and place-based contexts.
  2. The application of evaluation social action research to examine the impact of public policy and voluntary, faith, community, and social enterprise (VFCSE) organisations’ community-based interventions on individual and group experiences of inequalities as to identify ways of bringing about change.
  3. Conceptual development of Baumanian social thought (specifically, his liquid metaphor) as to relocate Zygmunt Bauman back into the critical theoretical tradition.

Nathan is Co-Investigator on the Gypsy, Roma, Traveller Youth: mitigating exclusions using the digital project (funded by the Nuffield Foundation). A 36-month research study which explores the digital capital and citizenship of Gypsy, Roma, Traveller (GRT) young people and its impacts on social inclusion.
