Jacob Koster
Jacob is a postgraduate researcher at the Birmingham School of Art, where he holds a STEAMhouse studentship. His research focuses on the historical relation between art and critique, using this as a lens to investigate the recent explosion in activist art practices.
Jacob holds an MA in Philosophy from the University of York (Dist) and a BSc in Economics from the University of Tilburg (Dist). Prior to joining BCU, he worked as a researcher at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium.
Jacob has worked with Renzo Martens on his "Institute for Human Activities," an art project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, giving him the opportunity to experience first-hand the life cycle of an activist art project. He has helped to organize the Institute's exhibitions at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, and the 7th Berlin Biennale.
Jacob has participated in numerous workshops and has presented at international conferences at the universities of Leiden and Oxford. He has contributed book chapters and has published his writing online. Having recently completed SEDA's Learning and Teaching in Higher Education course, he has gained some relevant teaching experience.
Jacob's research is cross-disciplinary, drawing on philosophy, economics, and the history of art.
