Bernie St Aubyn has been a Senior Lecturer in Nursing at Birmingham City University for the last 12 years and has taught at both undergraduate and LBR levels. Prior to working at the University she worked for 20 years clinically as a registered nurse, a registered midwife and a registered health visitor in the local community.

Bernie maintains her clinical and relevant educational focus through working collaboratively with Trust partners most recently on a practice nurse placement development project. Bernie is passionate about enhancing the student experience by developing and enhancing student engagement. Along with her colleague, Amanda Andrews, she developed an innovative education resource for the delivery of record keeping training. After being named the Health Faculty Extra Mile Award Winner 2012 for Creative and Engaging Teaching, she went on to write a chapter looking at innovations in university teaching. Bernie has written and published internationally, and presented at the RCN Education Conference 2012.

She is a passionate public speaker and an active member of the ASC (Association of Speakers’ Club) reaching the National Finals in both 2013 and 2016. She was the runner- up in the 2016 National Final. She has also delivered some public speaking and presentation workshops to prospective parliamentary candidates in the Houses of Westminster and regularly acts as a judge for speaking contests run by the Rotary Club and most recently the Soroptimist International.
