Dr Annette Naudin is Associate Professor and Academic Lead for Teaching Excellence and Student Experience in the College of English and Media. Annette co-leads CEDIA, a research cluster concerned with Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Arts.

Annette is interested in the challenges faced by cultural workers, the relationship to cultural policy, to place and to higher education. Since 2023, Annette has explored questions of gender equality curating an exhibition entitled Gender equality:40 years on! and an accompanying series of oral history podcasts, in collaboration with Dr Siobhán Stevenson. Working with a range of partners such as Birmingham City Council and Arts Connect, Annette has engaged in evaluations, commissioned research, and collaborative work to address inequalities in cultural work.

Annette completed a Ph.D (2015) at the Centre for Cultural Policy Studies at the University of Warwick, exploring the cultural worker’s experience of entrepreneurship. Prior to working in academia, Annette gained first-hand experience of creative entrepreneurship when running a successful textile design business, supplying outlets such as Liberty, Harrods and exporting to USA and Europe. This led to creative industry consultancy work with clients including local authorities, Craftspace and Arts Council England.
