Prof. Eirini Mavritsaki is Professor in Cognitive Psychology at Birmingham City University. Prior to her current role she was Director of Research for the School of Social Sciences from 2016-2020. Eirini has over 20 years’ experience in computational cognitive neuroscience and cognitive psychology. Her computational modelling work allows her to combine different methodologies (e.g. experimental studies, fMRI, behavioural and EEG) and to investigate the brain processes in attention, cross-cultural studies in attention, decision-making, Alzheimer’s, ADHD, visual neglect, and extinction, and in 2012 she was awarded the BPS cognitive section award. She sees the impact of her work in understanding further disorders related to attention and brain injury, and further down the line developing approaches for using computational modelling and machine learning to support patients. She currently leads the Cognition, Disorders and Computation (CDC) lab at BCU.

Eirini is a Senior Fellow of HEA and chartered member of the British Psychological Society (CPsychol). She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the International Organisation for Computational Neurosciences (OCNS) holding the EDI chair of the organisation. In terms of editorial work, she is Associate Editor in Frontiers in Cognition and Review Editor in Frontiers in Cognitive Science.
