Simon Hall’s musical interests are wide-ranging, which is reflected in his variety of work.

He is an active composer, producer, recording engineer and bass trombone player as well as educator.

He has worked across a range of genres in a range of capacities, with artists as diverse as Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez, Louis Andriessen and Heiner Goebbels to Johnny Mathis, Barry Manilow and Jamelia; and organisations ranging from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and the BBC Big Band, to the Royal Shakespeare Company and Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre.

Stylistically his compositions draw on an eclectic cross-section of sources and techniques combined within the electroacoustic genre.

His works have been performed internationally by a variety of artists and organisations, as well as receiving recognition by a number of international competitions and promoters including the BBC, Institut International de Musique Electroacoustique de Bourges (IMEB), Communauté Électroacoustique Canadienne (CEC), Society for Electroacoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS), Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival (FEMF) and Sonic Arts Network UK.

He has been commissioned to produce scores and sound designs for feature programmes for BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4. A number of his acoustic works are published by Warwick Music and his solo compositions have featured on the Trinity College examination syllabi. Production and engineering credits include albums that have received high praise and recommendation from, among others, Time Out, the Royal Philharmonic Society, Gramophone and Jazzwise.

Simon is Assistant Head of Music Technology at Birmingham Conservatoire, where he is an active member of their Research Team. He manages a range of teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and CPD level including the First Study Area in Music Technology, a BSc (hons) degree in Music Technology and Avid Accredited Pro Tools training. He is an Avid Certified Pro Tools Expert and Certified Instructor.

Simon project managed Advantage West Midlands' Music for Media Project, is a Board Director of the Centre for Music and Arts Technologies and a Director of the independent media production company Approaching Apocalypse.
