Getting the most out of conferences, networking and publishing

A workshop covering a range of themes relating to getting the most out of academic conferences and publishing will be held on Tuesday 30 May at The Parkside Building.

Hosted by Professor Andy Bennett, an experienced academic with extensive conference and publishing experience, the workshop will take place from 2 - 4pm in P131.

With the academic world becoming increasingly competitive, particularly at entry level stages, careful planning and career management are highly important. Professor Bennett's workshop will explore a range of themes relating to getting the most out of academic conferences and publishing, including:

  • Choosing the right conferences for you and your work
  • Presenting a conference paper
  • Making the most of networking opportunities
  • Publishing for your PhD thesis
  • Choosing what and where to publish
  • The merits of co-publishing as an ECR

While some significant new opportunities for academic profiling have been presented in the form of digital platforms such as Facebook and academia.edu, earlier and equally established forms such as profiling (conference presentations, networking and effective publishing) also remain critical benchmarks for academic success.
