Claire’s research interests lie at the intersection between animal law, human rights law and environmental law. Claire is committed to fighting for justice for disadvantaged individuals, groups and species.

Prior to commencing her doctoral research at BCU in September 2024, Claire spent over 6 years practising environmental, human rights and immigration law as a Solicitor in England and Wales.

Claire’s PhD research project, ‘A critical analysis of animal welfare crimes in England and Wales’, considers the question: To what extent do carceral logics form the foundation of legal responses to animal welfare violations in England and Wales and are alternative models available that could produce a more effective and just outcome?

Claire is an active member of the Animals, Nature & Society Research Stream at BCU.
