We are committed to enabling researchers to conduct the best research by managing research ethics, research integrity, research impact and online visibility/dissemination.

Together, we support all researchers in the university, from early-career to established, and provide advice on everything from open access guidelines to embedding research impact in the project pipeline.

We work with our researchers to ensure their work is being conducted to the highest quality and produces the best outcomes.

How do we help researchers?

  • Ensure all research is conducted in accordance with the guidelines set out in the Concordat to Support Research Integrity, providing staff with the guidance, training and frameworks they need to carry out responsible research;

  • Faculty-based research ethics committees are responsible for reviewing ethics applications in order to ensure that adequate consideration has been given to the ethical aspects of a research project, thus reducing the potential for harm and increasing the benefit of participants;
  • Provide support, guidance and resources across the University, acting as advocates for impact communication, education, promotion, the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and knowledge exchange;
  • Support the University’s commitment to increasing the public availability of research through the Open Access Repository.

Our team

Research Impact Officers

The Research Impact Team provide support, guidance and resources across the University, acting as advocates for impact communication, education, promotion and the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and knowledge exchange. The team also work collaboratively to develop processes, policies and strategies to embed impact into the research process for postgraduate students, academics and colleagues in professional services.

Research Integrity Officers

The Research Integrity Officers work with academics across all four Faculties, and with other teams across the University, to create and maintain a research environment that supports BCU’s researchers to act with integrity, in accordance with the commitments set out in the Concordat to Support Research Integrity. This includes developing the practical infrastructure to facilitate research activities, signposting researchers to appropriate guidance when needed, and fostering a community of researchers who are able to support each other.

Open Access Officer

Our Open Access Officer ensures academics are provided with guidance on using our repository and are meeting guidelines set out by the University and regulatory exercises such as the Research Excellence Framework.

Research Ethics Team

Faculty ethic committees and the central Research Ethics teams assess all outgoing research to ensure outputs meet ethical standards. This includes ensuring projects mitigate any risk, that the research is justified and that research activities meet all necessary guidance set out by the government.

Research, Web and Social Media Officers

The Web and Social Media Team work with academics to disseminate their research to a wide variety of audiences, communicating the impact of research projects and findings using a variety of formats including text, social media and video.
