Researcher – Expert Talks
Research interests lie upon the investigation of the extent low carbon and spatial quality can be delivered in regional projects and the way visual representations and pictorial forms such as drawings, diagrams and images contribute to the decision making and the design process and change the way we conceptualize regions and their landscape potential. The way policies and decision-making impact on strategic spatial scale is examined and several proposals have been made.
Findings of the research have been resulted to a PhD thesis with title ‘The role of low carbon, spatial design and drawings in landscape-based regional strategies’ and presented to various scientific conferences and professional development events. Parts of this research have also been displayed at the ‘A landscape way of …seeing low carbon’ exhibition held at Birmingham City University (Part I) and the International Convention Centre (ICC) Birmingham (Part II). The second phase of the exhibition took place during the Climate-KIC, EIT Innovation Festival 2015 and was presented in an international audience. The research is well accepted by academia and professionals resulting to a Technical Note (TIN) by the Landscape Institute and the involvement to the local authorities guide for climate change, a policy document published by the TCPA in December 2018. Book contributions feature part of this research with publication dates in 2019/2020. The ongoing pan European ‘SATURN’ EIT Climate-KIC and the UK wide West Midlands National Park projects examine and integrate part of this research to both policy documents and design elements in spatial planning.
