Alex’s research focuses on the intersection of technology between culture and society. He is currently preparing a book for Palgrave on the connection between videogames, the welfare state and the warfare state in Cold War Britain, which expands on earlier work in his 2016 monograph on the histories of British videogames, Playback.
He has written widely on areas in Sociology and Education including teen sexting, academic writing, Tom Cruise, space and time in society and French social theory. His most recent book is The Pac-Man Principle: A user’s guide to capitalism, which was published by Zero Books in 2018. He supervises Doctoral students in Game Studies, Holiday Hunger, Sexting and Jewellery and has responsibility for Postgraduate Research Experience in Health, Education and Life Sciences.
