Having qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1996 Heather spent two years in Newport and then Bristol working in Orthopaedics and then Cardiac Surgery (her favourite clinical job). In 1998, Heather joined the Army and became part of the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps as a Nursing Officer and had a fantastic 19 year career. This included working abroad in places such as Bosnia, Oman and Afghanistan, as a staff nurse, personnel manager and in clinical leadership positions. During this time Heather moved into nurse education and came to BCU alongside other military personnel, teaching within the pre-registration nursing curriculum and on the Defence Nursing Degree.

After leaving the Army in 2017, Heather took some time out to spend time with her family, and to take stock of where she would like her future to be. She returned to BCU and the nursing department, spending three years in the placement development and support team. Heather is now the course lead for the Return to Practice (Nursing) course at BCU. Heather is currently studying towards a Doctorate exploring the journey to becoming a Registered Nurse.
