An illustration student has won a Hallmark Cards Award, plus a prestigious work placement with Hallmark Cards for her work, 'Picture perfect designs by Nora Wright.'
Nora's quirky designs were spotted by the retailer at the 2015 New Designers show in London. This is an annual showcase of the most promising graduate talents from Britain’s leading design courses, featuring everything from textiles and jewellery to product design and illustration, as around 3,000 UK students exhibit their work to sponsors and buyers.
Nora Wright said she was "surprised, amazed and delighted" to have been chosen for the Hallmark Cards Award. She will receive a cash prize along with a two-month placement with Hallmark Cards that starts in September, after impressing the retailer. The judges said: "Nora's work displayed a quirky use of character line work with collage that portrayed original and commercial narrative illustrations." Nora said:
Ian Dodds Lecturer in Illustration, School Of Visual Communication at Birmingham City University said: "The New Designers show was a hugely successful event for us. We took 27 Illustration and Graphics Communication students to exhibit their work, which was a great experience for them being in front of industry buyers. As well as Nora's award, we also secured placements for our students with Next, Tigerprint, M&S, Oxford University Press, Ny-lon and Skew, together with interest from some of the top illustration agencies."
