A horse’s head, giant burgers and a six-foot tall Samurai warrior are just some of the bespoke cake creations made by an enterprising art and design graduate from Birmingham City University.

25-year-old Stephanie Parker, a former visual communication student, came up with the unique business venture after making birthday cakes for some of her university lecturers at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD), part of Birmingham City University.

She said: “The idea came about when I made a birthday cake for one of my lecturers last year. She was really impressed and told me about a business venture course the University were offering called ILF Ventures. I managed to secure a place on the course and with help from course staff was able to set up my own business – Made of Memories Cakes.”

Stephanie, from Atherstone in Warwickshire, now makes bespoke cakes for family occasions, PR and corporate events with cakes varying in design, some even containing lights and motors.

Stephanie continued: “I am truly grateful to all of the staff at BIAD. The opportunities the lecturers have given me over the years are truly amazing and they still help and advise me today. I have had an amazing time at BIAD, I have made friends for life, learnt the skills I needed to get into my chosen career and without knowing it, how to set up my own business.”
