Professor Craig Jackson was recently invited to give a very well-received talk at Stoke’s Harplands Hospital.

Craig, Professor of Occupational Health Psychology at the University, gave the talk to the Psychiatry Continuing Professional Development group, discussing the psychiatric aspects of spree and campus shooters. It focused on the behavioural and personality aspects of such mass-killers, and argued that personality disorders were more likely to be responsible for spree-killers’ actions than any psychiatric problems may be.

The talk was warmly received by the audience, who included Consultant Psychiatrists, Specialist Registrars and Trainee Psychiatrists. Feedback from the audience described the talk as “very enlightening” and “a salient reminder that such explosive violence is something that many of our clients are capable of, and not just those with psychiatric diagnoses.”

The invitation to speak to the group was made following a similar presentation Craig had previously given to the Birmingham Medical Institute Psychiatry Interest Group.
