Lecturer receives esteemed award

Dr Eirini Mavritsaki latest research project has earned national acclaim by The British Psychological Society (BPS) for ‘outstanding contribution to research in the area of Cognitive Psychology.’

The award was presented, on Thursday 30 August at The British Psychological Society Annual Conference 2012, in Glasgow. The Birmingham City University lecturer won the coveted Cognitive Psychology Section prize for the publication; Mavritsaki, Heinke, Allen, Deco and Humphreys (2011). Bridging the gap between physiology and behaviour: Evidence from the sSoTS model of human visual attention. Psychological Review, 118, 3-41.

Commenting on receiving the award, Eirini said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been awarded by BPS. This award is significant not only because it recognises all the hard work that has taken place by my colleagues and myself, but because it also highlights the importance of continuing this line of research.”

Having joined Birmingham City University, in July 2012, Eirini discusses her new post at the university as a Lecturer in Cognitive Psychology. She says “I am overjoyed to join the Department of Psychology at Birmingham City University, and am looking forward to enhancing the already impressive work put into teaching and research at the university.”

Erini’s work has made a significant contribution to research in the area of cognitive psychology and has been credited for ‘bridging the gap between physiology and behaviour’. In addition to her role at the University, Eirini is also a Visiting Academic for The University of Oxford, Honorary Lecturer at the University of Birmingham and a Chartered Psychologist of the British Psychological Society.
