A leading nursing academic has published a guide to support Nursing students through their studies and career development.
Nicola Clarke, author and Senior lecturer in Mental Health at Birmingham City University has published her book, 'The Student’s Nurse’s Guide to Successful Reflection – Ten Essential Ingredients' which introduces the student nurse to the important factors required to reflect.
Based upon a new extended description of reflection, Nicolas book covers the 10 essential ingredients needed to ensure students are able to become the effective reflective practitioner they need to be in their chosen health career.
Examples of these ingredients includes:
- How to be Person Centred
- Being empathic
- Use of Academic Skills
Nicola’s interest in reflection stems from her experience as a student mental health nurse. Her idea for the book arose from focusing on teaching and learning experiences of both staff and students at Birmingham City University whilst undertaking research for her Doctorate.
Nicola Clarke, author and Senior lecturer in Mental Health at Birmingham City University, said: “I am so pleased to have been able to write a book that I hope will inspire and greatly support students through their studies.
"This is a book that I hope will be undemanding to read yet, useful to students, and will give them the skills necessary to reflect in all forms. I also wanted this book to reflect me as a lecturer and mental health nurse."
'The Student’s Nurse’s Guide to Successful Reflection – Ten Essential Ingredients' (Open University Press) is now available on Amazon.
