Birmingham City University and Creative Networks are hosting a free event this month highlighting how BBC local radio is being revolutionised with the introduction of a new virtualised system.

Leading the discussion event on Thursday 30 January will be Geoff Woolf, Technology Development Manager for BBC English Regions, who are responsible for all non-networked television, text and radio output in England as well as the BBC's local websites covering the English Regions.

In Birmingham’s Mailbox, BBC English Regions have been working on enhancing the tools used by programme makers and have developed a revolutionary new way to build a local radio studio. The new development will be a virtual radio station which is quick to install and able to be set up in any location with good connectivity.

Geoff Woolf will be explaining the concept, how it works and why the BBC are doing this, as well as highlighting the benefits and where it could ultimately take the broadcasting technology sector.

Hosts of the event, Creative Networks, provide a space for innovators to meet, share ideas and shape the future. As well as delivering valuable insights into technology trends and developments, Creative Networks bring together parties involved in screen-based and sound based media in the West Midlands, promoting both successful business development and collaboration.

The event runs from 5.45pm until 8:45pm at Birmingham City University's City Centre Campus. For more information and to book your place, visit Creative Networks' website.

The event follows the Birmingham Music Network and the Birmingham Screen Image Network, taking place from 4pm until 5.30pm.
