Birmingham Conservatoire is to celebrate all things viola next month with a special day of inspirational performances and masterclasses.

All interested viola players, from amateurs and school-age students to Conservatoire and university-level students, are invited to attend the free event on Sunday 12 January.

Louise Lansdown, Head of Strings at Birmingham Conservatoire, part of Birmingham City University, said: “We’re delighted to be able to welcome Professor Blazej Maliszewski from Gdansk in Poland to perform and teach on the day.

“Conservatoire violists will be performing both solo and ensemble items, alongside discussions and master classes delivered by Robin Ireland, Rose Redgrave, Blazej and myself.”

Opportunities will be available for violists of all ages to take part in ensemble sessions and viola masterclasses during the day, which runs from 11am until 6pm.

Louise added: “We’ll also be introducing the British Viola Society, based at Birmingham Conservatoire, as well as introducing the Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition which will be launching in October 2014.”
