Staff, students and graduates at Birmingham City University are to celebrate 50 years of running the region’s only speech and language therapy course next week.
The event will also showcase a new £41 million university building which will house a new speech and language therapy clinic when it opens in 2018.
Over 100 attendees are expected to attend the celebratory event at the University’s City South Campus in Edgbaston on Saturday 2 September, including former colleagues from the 1960s and recent graduates.
The city’s speech and language therapy course was first taught at Matthew Boulton College in 1967, before being delivered at Birmingham City University from 1972 - then known as Birmingham Polytechnic.
The University is the West Midlands’ only training site for speech and language therapists and is the largest provider of qualified staff to the NHS and social care professions.
Birmingham City University will also host a free event about stammering on Tuesday 5 September, with guest speaker Tim Fell, chair of the British Stammering Association.
