Birmingham City University will be getting in the mood for the festive season next week with an official lights switch-on celebration for their Macmillan Tree of Thought.
The University’s Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences is supporting Macmillan Cancer Supports annual Christmas campaign, and are inviting staff, students and the general public to sponsor a light on their Christmas tree, in memory of friends and loved ones who have been touched by cancer.
The event takes place on Wednesday 11 November at the University’s City South Campus in Edgbaston, and will be hosted by the Principal of Birmingham Conservatoire, Professor Julian Lloyd Webber.
The Faculty hopes to raise £1,000 for the charity which provides advice and support to people affected by cancer.
Associate Dean for the Faculty and former Macmillan Nurse Louise Toner said:
Emily Morgan, Fundraising Regional Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: "We'd like to say a big thank you to Birmingham City University for their continued support of the Tree of Thought. It's a wonderful way to remember loved ones and celebrate their memory at this special time of year. Generous donations such as this mean that Macmillan can continue supporting people affected by cancer in Birmingham and across the UK.”
As well as mince pies and mulled wine, attendees will be treated to a choral performance by St Paul's School for Girls. Donations can be made by visiting the Faculty’s Just Giving page.
