Birmingham City University have seen their research funding increase yet again, reinforcing claims that the university is one of the leading modern universities for world-leading research.

Professor David J. Edwards, Head of Research and Director of the Centre for Business Innovation & Enterprise at Birmingham City Business School (BCBS), has recently been awarded the £70,000 research grant from the Off-highway Plant and Equipment Research Centre (OPERC).

The grant is the second won from OPERC, who have to date funded £150,000 towards sponsoring a chair; Professor Gary Holt, within the school.

Professor Edwards said: “This is fabulous news and demonstrates the extensive industrial linkages that the BCBS has now established under the leadership and direction of our Dean. It also acknowledges the significant contribution that Professor Holt has made to research and professional practice since joining the school.”

The new research will look into trailers that transport plant and machinery and more specifically at wheel detachment incidents on highways.

Mr Barry Robinson, MBE, OPERC Honorary President said: “This research is critically important as it could yield new inherently safer designs of machinery and will almost certainly improve the business management processes.

The relationship with Birmingham City University has proven to be most productive and rewarding and we will look into further funding support when this current contract extension expires. On behalf of the association, we thank the University, Dean and the research team for their invaluable research work – they have certainly enhanced the University’s reputation for producing high calibre research amongst industrialists.”
