Birmingham City University is helping a group of Egyptian teachers to improve their English language skills.

The University's Faculty of Education, Law & Social Sciences has opened its doors to 15 mathematics teachers who will be studying in Birmingham until this summer. The visit is sponsored by the Egyptian Government as part of a national drive to raise educational standards in Egypt.

Colin Hill, an Associate Dean at Birmingham City University, said: "The group are currently working hard to improve their English Language qualifications and have already all been successful in their first English exams.

"They will soon move on to extending both their mathematical skills and their knowledge of UK teaching methods. They will also spend several weeks as guests of local schools, observing and assisting class teachers.

"Birmingham City University is delighted to welcome the group to Birmingham and we hope it will be the first of many such visits from overseas teachers."

The group recently met with the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Chauhdry Abdul Rashid, who officially welcomed them to the City and the University.
