Birmingham City University's Faculty of Health is supporting Macmillan Cancer Support's annual Christmas campaign - the Macmillan Tree of Thought - by inviting staff and students to sponsor a light on their tree in memory of friends and loved ones who have been touched by cancer.
The Faculty hope to raise £2,000 for the charity which provides advice and support to people affected by cancer.
Attendees of the light switch-on event at the University's City South campus - taking place on Wednesday 13 November - will be treated to mince pies and mulled wine before the Lord Mayor of Birmingham officially switches on the lights.
Natalie Bridge, Fundraising Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support said: "Christmas is such a wonderful and magical time, but for many it can also be a time of sadness, remembering those who are no longer with us. Birmingham City University's Tree of Thought is a great tribute to so many people and we are grateful that donations made will be going to Macmillan. Only through such generous donations, is Macmillan able to provide more people living with cancer the support they need, when they need it the most."
Associate Dean for the Faculty of Health and former Macmillan Nurse, Louise Toner said: "The Faculty are extremely proud to support Macmillan Cancer Support's Christmas campaign. As healthcare professionals we see first-hand the difference every penny makes to the lives of people and families affected by cancer. We hope that staff, students and the people of Birmingham, will join us on 13 November for mulled wine and mince pies and help remember those who cannot be with us this Christmas."
