A lecturer in Law at Birmingham City University is to represent Italy in the Midlands after being made Honorary Vice-Consul of Italy in Birmingham.
The role will see 31 year-old Ilaria Di Gioia act as a key point of reference for Italians living in Birmingham, with a duty of assisting fellow countrymen in distress or emergency situations and reporting births, deaths and marriages to Italian authorities.
Before commencing study for a PhD at Birmingham City University’s School of Law in 2013, Ilaria completed a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Faculty of Political Science at the Sapienza University of Rome.
Ilaria began lecturing at Birmingham City University in 2016, where she teaches American constitutional law and English legal practices.
“Honorary Vice-Consults don’t make a living as diplomats and I will be continuing my lecturing role at Birmingham City University whilst undertaking my Vice-Consul duties on Saturdays”, added Ilaria.
