Hosted by Birmingham City University, the online event saw 80 leading nurses from many corners of the globe, including Health Education England’s Chief Nursing Officer Professor Mark Radford, join together to share their experiences and celebrate the profession.

They also shared video clips exploring how nurses can influence change, provide leadership and improve patient outcomes.

Amongst those taking part were Mike Adams, Royal College of Nursing Director for England, and Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive Officer of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

This comes as the University has opened its doors to train healthcare professionals joining the frontline response to the coronavirus pandemic, whilst nearly 300 final year nursing students also signed up to join the battle against COVID-19.

Associate Professor at Birmingham City University, David Waters, explained: “The nursing and midwifery team joined forces for this virtual celebration event.

“It was brilliant to share motivational presentations and discussion with students, colleagues and leading nurses.

“Bringing so many nurses and nursing students together for a virtual celebration was a wonderful experience and we were delighted to mark International Nurses Day.”
