Birmingham City University has been selected to join a £2million nationwide scheme to boost social entrepreneurship.
The project is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and delivered in partnership with UnLtd, the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs.
Over the next 12 months the participating universities will be recruiting ‘champions’ from across their institutions to engage in a wide range of staff and students from all disciplines. Experts at Birmingham City University will be helping to test a range of methods and approaches to support social entrepreneurs.
This latest programme follows the success of the Higher Education Social Entrepreneurship Awards, which saw 200 social ventures established in 70 universities and colleges between 2009 and 2011.
