University event to explore the power of visual health messaging

Steroid use and image enhancing drugs (SIED) are the focus of a Birmingham City University conference taking place this week (14 June), aimed to improve engagement and communication with users.

Steroid Use and Public Health: The Power of Visual Communication’ takes place at the University’s Curzon Building and will include an unveiling of new artist images which are being made available to healthcare providers and are designed to help those working with SIED users.

A series of talks will be delivered by guest speakers on the topics of SIED use in the UK and the power of creatively visualising health messages.

Other speakers at the event include Jim McVeigh, director of the Public Health Institute at Liverpool John Moores University.

Organised and led by Katinka van de Ven from Birmingham City University’s Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences, the day-long event and steroid art project is delivered in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University’s Public Health Institute, the Human Enhancement Drugs Network, Aalborg Antidoping and Birmingham City University’s School of Visual Communication.
