Birmingham City University and Creative Networks are hosting a free event this month highlighting the significant relationship between music and politics in the 1960s and their links to the wider world of art, fashion, sport and technology.

Leading the discussion event on Thursday 27 February will be Steve Millward, co-writer of the critically acclaimed ‘From Blues to Rock’, whose broadcasting experience includes a two-year spell as BBC Radio 5’s ‘pop pundit’.

Steve will be discussing music and culture in the 1960s and in particular 1964, when the swinging sixties is said to have really began, in a time when youth culture dominated the media.

Steve will also be addressing key topics covered in his new book, ‘Changing Times: Music and Politics in 1964’, with mention of the many personalities, events and trends that made 1964 memorable.

Hosts of the event, Creative Networks, provide a space for innovators to meet, share ideas and shape the future. As well as delivering valuable insights into technology trends and developments, Creative Networks bring together parties involved in screen-based and sound based media in the West Midlands, promoting both successful business development and collaboration.

The event runs from 5.45pm until 8:45pm at Birmingham City University's City Centre Campus. For more information and to book your place, visit Creative Networks' website.

The event follows the Birmingham Music Network and the Birmingham Screen Image Network, taking place from 4pm until 5.30pm.
