A student at Birmingham City University with aspirations of becoming a top lawyer has revealed how her mother is the driving force behind her success.
19 year-old Georgia Cartwright is the first in her family to attend university, where she studies Law whilst also being a carer for her mum.
“My mum is disabled and in a wheelchair, so she relies heavily on me every day whilst my dad is working and my brother is attending college,” explained Georgia, who lives in Stourbridge.
“My one goal pushing me through university is so that I can afford to pay for the best possible treatment to help my mother and ensure my family are looked after for life.
“I normally get up between 4:30am and 5am most mornings, even on weekends, so I can get as much of my work done as possible before everyone wakes up.”
Georgia developed her love of law whilst studying at King Edward VI College in Stourbridge and hopes to carry out her own research in the future.
Her passion for justice also sees her dedicate time outside of University to provide voluntary legal support for people in her community.
“I’ve got a strong desire to pursue a PhD in law and perhaps even work at BCU in the future, giving students opportunities like some of those I have had.
“As part of my placement work I volunteer and help people of all ages with various legal issues including evictions, divorces, child arrangement orders and non-molestation orders. I even sit in court with them.
Despite her busy schedule, Georgia is on track for a first class degree having achieved the highest grades in her year group at Birmingham City University’s Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences.
“University has really allowed me to grow and flourish,” added Georgia.
