Thousands of students could be in line for a £1,000 cash boost if they reach or exceed their target A-Level grades, thanks to a new scholarship launched by Birmingham City University.
Applicants to the University are being challenged to ‘Meet or Beat’ the grades required to land their places on a degree course, in order to secure the four-figure funding when they begin their studies.
The unique offer aims to encourage students to fulfil their potential at school or college, and maximise their grades before entering university.
All UK and EU applicants to the University are eligible for the funding including those studying alternative pre-higher education qualifications such as BTECs or the International Baccalaureate.
The ‘Meet or Beat’ scholarship has been launched after consultation with school and college teachers on new ways to support young people in achieving the best possible results.
Professor Philip Plowden, Vice-Chancellor at Birmingham City University, said: ““There are many scholarships available for young people but we wanted to make sure that we designed something which rewards students for going the extra mile and making the most of their talents.”
“Studying for your exams and starting university is a significant period in the lives of many people, and we hope that this extra funding will help make that process easier for many of our students.”
The ‘Meet or Beat’ offer will be available to students now applying to study at the University.
Members of staff will be available to talk about the new funding at the University’s next Open Days on Saturday 19 October and Sunday 24 November.
