The University is hosting the Global Coaches House Birmingham 2022 Conference at its city centre campus from Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 August – during the mid-point of the upcoming Commonwealth Games taking place in the city.

Run in partnership with the International Council for Coaching Excellence – a global not-for-profit organisation – the conference is aimed at new and current sports coaches at all levels from amateur to elite as well as leading figures from sporting associations and others interested in all aspects of sports coaching and athletic development.

The Global Coaches House Birmingham 2022 Conference will include talks, presentations and workshops focussed on the latest coaching research and knowledge, covering the up-to-date coaching skills required to maximise competitors’ performance in whatever sport they participate in.

Dr Adam Kelly, Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for Sports Coaching and Physical Education at Birmingham City University, worked with Head of Sport Mark Jeffreys to bring the ICCE Global Coaches House conference to the University.

Adam said:

“Much of the conference content is focussed on improving coaching knowledge and ability to enhance sporting performance. But we’ll also be looking at how our coaching systems can be structured to identify and support the development of talent at all levels.”

Among the speakers at the conference are John Alder who heads up player development at Welsh Rugby Union, Darren Pearcy of Skateboard UK who led Team GB’s inaugural skateboard team at Tokyo 2022, and Karen Falcon, Coach Developer at British Sailing.

They will be joined by fellow coaches, sports administrators, and academics at the three-day event and Adam is also keen to extend the invitation to coaches taking part in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

He added:
