Professor Liz Smart is Birmingham City University's (BCU) new Dean of the School of Law and Social Sciences.
One of the six recently-announced academic Deans at BCU, Professor Smart is currently Professor of Legal Education at the University.
"I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as Dean of the School of Law and Social Sciences at BCU,” said Professor Smart.
“I am deeply committed to enabling the University to achieve its strategic ambition and working with the brilliant staff across the School.
“BCU is an outstanding university, and I am truly excited by the opportunities that lie ahead."
Professor Smart (pictured) has served in a number of senior leadership roles in both higher education and the legal profession.
A practising solicitor, she served as Head of Law at Sheffield Hallam University before becoming Head of the School of Law and Society at St Mary’s University.
She is also a National Teaching Fellow and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Vice-Chancellor Professor David Mba said: “Liz has clear leadership strengths as well as a deep understanding of the challenges facing Birmingham City University.
“Her skills and passion for higher education are an extremely good match as we look to realise the ambitions set out in our 2030 Strategy. I look forward to working with her.”
