Placement pay-off for BSA students

University News Last updated 27 March 2012

Birmingham School of Acting (BSA) students are racking up significant and sometimes paid work during their courses, as two further successes have shown. Significant companies in the arts industry, both locally and internationally, are picking up the significant skills of our students and they’re being justly rewarded.

Ally Damon (pictured right), a 3rd year BA (Hons) Community and Applied Theatre student was on a six-week placement with Big Brum Theatre Company during the second year of her course. During this time she worked alongside office staff on both arts administration and marketing and has since been back twice to work for Big Brum as a paid member of staff. Other students on the course have also been offered employment following their placements, including Abi Holmes who went to work for mac Birmingham has since been offered full-time employment. Ally commented, “It’s a great way to start networking with companies both in and around Birmingham.”

We’re also delighted to announce that Nikki Sammons, a 2nd year BA (Hons) Stage Management student, has been selected for one of the two Stage Management internships to help run the prestigious Sam Wannamaker Festival at the Globe Theatre in London. The festival is an annual celebration of Sam Wanamaker who was integral in the rebuilding of the Globe and who, many believe, it would not have been possible to do so without. Jacqui Findlay, Course Director, said, “This will be a fantastic opportunity for Nikki and hopefully she will make some great contacts while she’s there.”
