As competition for undergraduate places is expected to be stronger than ever this year, one university is suggesting part-time study could be an option.
Experts at Birmingham City University are suggesting that anyone who hasn’t been able to secure a place on a full-time course this year could enroll to study part-time instead. Last year the University received 4,000 calls enquiring for places on courses through Clearing – yet only had 300 on offer; this year there are expected to be even fewer places available following the release of the A Level results on Thursday 18 August.
A more economical way to study
Kathryn Jones, Director of Marketing and Communications, said: “If you didn’t try to get a place through Clearing but are unsuccessful don’t panic. There are courses available that you could study on a part-time basis.
“Here at Birmingham City University we offer a full range of part-time courses in subjects such as law, English and architecture. In fact one third of the total number of students at Birmingham City University study on a part-time basis.
“If you haven’t considered it before, you may want to think again. Part-time study may actually prove a more economical way to study as you can fit your study around work gaining valuable experience while you learn and earning an income to fund your studies.”
