“No newly qualified nurse will stay in post if staffing levels and workload aren’t addressed soon” warns nursing expert

Royal College of Nursing general secretary Dame Donna Kinnair will call for safe staffing levels to be enshrined in law in a speech today.

Birmingham nurse and Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing at Birmingham City University, Ann-Marie Dodson, supports the proposed changes.

She said: “This needs to be a priority. If staffing levels and workload aren’t addressed soon, no newly qualified nurse will stay in post.

“As nurses, we all have a sense of duty and goodwill towards our vocation, but work-life balance is becoming increasingly important.

“The Department for Health and Social Care must act now. We are in a disaster already.”
