Royal College of Nursing general secretary Dame Donna Kinnair will call for safe staffing levels to be enshrined in law in a speech today.
Birmingham nurse and Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing at Birmingham City University, Ann-Marie Dodson, supports the proposed changes.
She said: “This needs to be a priority. If staffing levels and workload aren’t addressed soon, no newly qualified nurse will stay in post.
“As nurses, we all have a sense of duty and goodwill towards our vocation, but work-life balance is becoming increasingly important.
“The Department for Health and Social Care must act now. We are in a disaster already.”
