Birmingham City University has signed a progression agreement with the Open College Network West Midlands Region (OCNWMR), which will help to provide a more accessible route to Higher Education for students who have successfully completed access courses accredited by the OCNWMR.
Access to Higher Education courses are designed to enable students who have been out of education for some time and that may not have the traditional types of qualifications to gain entry to Higher Education. The courses prepare students with the study skills that they need together with knowledge in a range of subject areas.
Professor Fiona Church, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Law and Social Sciences said; "We are delighted to formalise our partnership with OCNWMR. We are pleased to welcome access students onto our programmes and have generally found such students to be committed, interested and determined to succeed – exactly the sort of student we want at BCU!"
Birmingham City University welcomes applications from students on the Access to Higher Education programme from colleges across the West Midlands. Prospective students will have the opportunity to study on a wide range of courses in education, law and social sciences at the University.
This initiative will help students to gain a clearer understanding of what is required when applying to university and the grades they will need in order to meet entry criteria for each degree. The aim of the agreement is to help encourage progression by ensuring students are more informed about courses available to them.
Applications from students with an Access to Higher Education Diploma are now being accepted for the September 2014 intake.
