A group of Birmingham City University students are celebrating after winning awards for excellence from Birmingham City Council.

The group of five students on the MSc Construction were awarded for a group project which involved proposing a series of designs for a new Community Hall in the City.  They were presented with a framed certificate as well as £100 worth of shopping vouchers each at the award ceremony held last week at Birmingham City University.

Charlotte Connor, 23 from Bromsgrove, Leanne Curl, 23 from Digbeth, Francesca Meade, 29 from Sutton Coldfield, James Ryan, 23 from the Jewellery Quarter and Leon Sheppard, 26 from Rugby, received their award from Councillor Neville Summerfield, Cabinet Member for Regeneration at Birmingham City Council.

The event celebrated an innovative partnership and commitment to collaborative working between Birmingham City University and Birmingham City Council that has taken shape throughout the past two years.

The awards highlighted the excellent standard of work achieved by students from the School of Property, Construction & Planning across projects, dissertations and technical application.

Francesca commented: "We were delighted to receive the award.  What is particularly notable is that the project bought together a group of people from different degree disciplines - from English Literature to Maths - which has added real value to the course.  The success of the group stands us all in good stead as we progress in our future careers."

Richard Jordan, Director of Marketing and Recruitment at the School of Property, Construction & Planning at Birmingham City University, said: "The Urban Design Collaborative Partnership is an excellent example of the way in which the School works in partnership with industry in order to create a range of exciting awards to bring out the best in our students whether undergraduate or postgraduate."

"We are very excited at the developments in this partnership and are keen to see the positive impact that the fresh new talent will have with the experience and expertise of our team.  This is great news for the City" added Steve Vickers, General Manager of Urban Design at Birmingham City Council.
