Several city-based charities will be raising their profile at a dedicated event at Birmingham City University next week.
The event is being organised by the Faculty of Education, Law & Social Sciences and will form part of the ‘Working with Charities Week’ – taking place from the 13th to the 16th December.
Six charities – including Mencap, MacMillan, Barnardos, Homestart and Contact a Family – will be presenting to students from Children and Integrated Professional Care, giving students the opportunity to discover the valuable work that these charities do to help improve the life of children and their families in Birmingham. The students will be able to gather more information and speak to representatives from each charity.
The ‘Working with Charities Week’ will prove especially valuable for Children and Integrated Professional Care students, whose course centres around children and family care. Louise Khalid, Course Director, said: “We want to give our students the opportunity to hear first hand about this extremely valuable work that doesn’t often appear in text books.”
“This event will undoubtedly be incredibly useful for the students and will also help raise valuable profile for the charities themselves. We are delighted to work with such prominent local charities.”
As the week progresses, students (also from courses in Primary Teaching and Early Childhood education) will also see hear from other charities such as Edward’s Trust and will be able to make links between the theory and practice of integrated working with children and their families.
