Christian Frost

Birmingham City University has announced the appointment of leading architectural academic Christian Frost to the post of Professor of Architecture in History, Theory and Cultural Context at the University’s School of Architecture.

The privately funded professorship – the only one of its kind within the University – was created in honour of former Head of the School of Architecture, Oscar Naddermier, following a generous donation of $1 million to the School by alumnus Dr Albert Hong.

Professor Frost, currently a Principal Lecturer at Kingston University, is a registered architect who studied the History and Philosophy of Architecture at Cambridge University. Christian has worked in Australia, Germany and the United Kingdom on buildings ranging from domestic properties to highly specialised arts projects. He currently acts as a Chair on RIBA Validation Boards and is an external examiner at De Montfort University. Christian has authored a number of conference papers and articles as well as a book, “Time Space and Order; The making of medieval Salisbury.”

Professor Frost said: “It is a great privilege to be offered the Oscar Naddermier Professorship of Architecture and I am looking forward to working with the established history and theory of architecture team as well as teaching design to the MArch students.

“I feel that my experiences as an architect, lecturer and design tutor over the past twenty three years will enable me to add to the excellent provision already offered by the school and faculty. I am arriving at an exciting time, with the new building about to open, and feel that I will be joining a school with great potential.”

Christian will take up his role towards the end of the academic year and will be responsible for the areas of architecture history, theory and cultural context across the School of Architecture as well as leading one of the School’s Research Hubs.
