Secondary school children are being given the chance to make their own TV shows, design video games and run a business during school holidays thanks to a new scheme being launched by Birmingham City University.

‘Future Creatives’ is a range of hands-on, creative media workshops for 13-16 year olds (Years 9 to 11), which last between three and five days during the school holidays.

Sara Middleton, Course Director at NTI Birmingham, part of Birmingham City University, said: “These innovative courses give young people a real taste of an exciting career in the creative industry and cover everything from broadcast journalism, design, enterprise, games design, fashion photography, radio and TV, with the first courses running next month during the half-term holidays.”

Iain Harrison, Course Leader of sister games course Gamer Camp, and Artist on games such as GoldenEye 007: Reloaded and Star Wars: Battlefront 3 added: “Those taking part in these workshops can look forward to being taught the basic concepts of games design, before working in teams to design levels, or – with our advanced course, use real game development hardware to help build a game.”

Courses cost between £150 and £250. For more information and to register, see visit the Future Creatives web pages.
