A senior manager from Birmingham City University has returned from crisis-torn Egypt after witnessing the spiralling violence first-hand - including peaceful protestors of all ages being attacked by police.
Professor Fiona Church, Executive Dean of Faculty of Education, Law and Social Sciences (ELSS), was on a business trip in Egypt’s capital Cairo and returned to the UK at the weekend.
“In Cairo I witnessed peaceful demonstrations attacked by the police. Mums, dads, children, young and old were tear-gassed for no apparent reason and this was swiftly followed by rubber bullets and missiles,” said Professor Church.
Back in the UK, Professor Church is keenly watching events unfold in the Arab country and hopes the nation’s leadership will respond appropriately to the call of its people.
